Mircea Vulcanescu Dimensiunea Romaneasca A Existentei 16.pdf
Mircea Vulcanescu (1904-1952) was a Romanian philosopher, economist, sociologist, and historian of religion. He is best known for his magnum opus, Dimensiunea romaneasca a existentei (The Romanian Dimension of Existence), a monumental work of cultural anthropology and philosophy of history that explores the spiritual and historical roots of the Romanian people.
The book was published posthumously in three volumes between 1991 and 1993, based on the manuscripts that Vulcanescu left behind after his death in prison. He was arrested by the communist regime in 1948, along with other members of the Criterion Association, a cultural and intellectual elite group that opposed totalitarianism and promoted democratic values. He was sentenced to 25 years of hard labor for "high treason" and "conspiracy against the social order". He died four years later, after being tortured and denied medical care.

Dimensiunea romaneasca a existentei is a complex and original synthesis of various sources of knowledge, such as history, folklore, mythology, linguistics, theology, psychology, sociology, and economics. Vulcanescu aims to reveal the essence of the Romanian spirit, which he defines as "the capacity to create values out of nothing". He argues that the Romanian people have a unique way of being in the world, marked by creativity, resilience, adaptability, and faith. He traces the origins of this existential dimension to the ancient Dacians, who inhabited the territory of present-day Romania before being conquered by the Romans. He also analyzes the influences of Christianity, Byzantium, Slavic cultures, Ottoman Empire, Western Europe, and modernity on the Romanian identity.
The book is divided into 16 chapters, each corresponding to a different aspect or dimension of the Romanian existence. The chapters are:
The Dacian Dimension
The Christian Dimension
The Byzantine Dimension
The Slavic Dimension
The Ottoman Dimension
The Western Dimension
The Modern Dimension
The Economic Dimension
The Social Dimension
The Political Dimension
The Juridical Dimension
The Ethical Dimension
The Aesthetic Dimension
The Religious Dimension
The Philosophical Dimension
The Metaphysical Dimension
In each chapter, Vulcanescu examines the historical events, cultural phenomena, social institutions, moral values, artistic expressions, religious beliefs, and philosophical concepts that shaped the Romanian mentality and worldview. He uses a variety of methods and approaches, such as comparative analysis, typology, hermeneutics, phenomenology, and dialectics. He also draws on his own personal experience and observations as a witness and participant in the turbulent events of the first half of the 20th century.
Dimensiunea romaneasca a existentei is a remarkable achievement of intellectual synthesis and cultural interpretation. It is also a testament of Vulcanescu's love and devotion for his country and his people. The book is not only a valuable source of information and insight for scholars and students interested in Romanian culture and history, but also a source of inspiration and guidance for anyone who seeks to understand and appreciate the richness and diversity of human existence.
